BURNHAM — The Mifflin County Sports Hall of Fame will be hosting its first induction ceremony this Sunday afternoon at the Birch Hill Events Center. Although ticket sales to the ceremony have ended, the program will be available via internet streaming to supporting members of the Hall of Fame and the general public.
“We are pleased to offer the opportunity to family and friends of the inductees and even our own membership, who are unable to attend in-person, to experience this wonderful occasion,” said Jon Zimmerman, president of the local Hall of Fame.
The broadcast is being made possible by MCTV, the media education outlet of the Mifflin County School District, under the direction of faculty member Roger Herto.
The broadcast will begin at approximately 5 p.m. It can be found by searching online for MCTV’s YouTube channel and then clicking on the Mifflin County Sports Hall of Fame link on the home page. You may also open the Mifflin County School District website at www.mcsdk12.org and then select the MCTV YouTube channel link on the home page. There is no cost to view the program.
Sunday’s HOF induction will include five individuals – former NFL Super Bowl Champion Ralph Baker, world renown racquetball champion Cindy Baxter, the late pro football player Dave Bradley, former Penn State play-by-play announcer the late Fran Fisher, and longtime pro baseball player and scout Tim Thompson.
In the team category, the Lewistown girls’ basketball state AAA champions in consecutive years of 1997 and 1998 will be inducted simultaneously. Some of the players being honored played on both state championship squads for coach Kevin Kodish.
The ceremony itself should commence around 5:15 with guest speaker, “The Voice of Penn State Sports”, Steve Jones.
The ceremony will also be recorded and available for future viewing on MCTV.
